Montreal Here We Come!!

This year the Canadian Nationals Masters Swimming Championships are being held in Montreal at the Claude Robillard Pool from May 20-23.  It's my first nationals since Calgary in 2001.

Training has been going well.  The camp in Venezuela was a big help in conditioning and learning techniques that have assisted me in my swimming.  It's true...you can teach an old dog new tricks...swimming technique has really changed over the years.  What we thought was good in the 70's, 80's and 90's is pretty much gone.

Hannes and I are both going.  It's his first time to Montreal.  I will be the one speaking a little bit of French, if I can manage it...lol.  I used some broken French at training camp when conversing with some of the French ladies.  But they were really good and switched to English...c'est la vie!

Three swimmers from Thunder Bay are going.  It's funny though.  None of us are representing our club the Thunder Rays.  We are joining up with some larger clubs.  This enables us to have a bigger group to hang around with and also we get to swim relays.  I believe my new club "Masters of the North" will have a coach with us at the meet.  There are just over 1100 competitors in the meet ranging in age from 19 to 80+.  Some of the entry times are extremely fast.  I look forward to seeing some amazing swims.  My age group is looking very competitive.  My goal is to make top 10 in my six events - 100, 200, 400 and 800 freestyle and 50, 100 backstroke.

I swim so fast that I am just a blur!  lol  Yes, I know the photo is out of focus!!!  Actually it's one of the few photos where I have a high elbow recovery in freestyle.
